Roller shutters made to measure for your home.

A roller shutter keeps out the sun, the cold and prying eyes, and makes a break-in harder. GardenGate Veranda offers made-to-measure roller shutters in Eindhoven and the surrounding area.

The roller shutter

Six benefits in one roller shutter.

A roller shutter closes your window or door from the outside with slats that run up and down in guides. In summer it keeps the sun and the heat out, in winter the cold; it dampens noise from outside and gives you privacy. Closed, it is also an extra obstacle for burglars, and it can make a bedroom completely dark.

A roller shutter is always made to measure, to the size of your window or door. Which type suits your home, how you operate it and in what colour — we talk that through with you.

  • Keeps sun, heat and cold out
  • Makes a break-in harder and gives privacy
  • Operated by hand or electrically

What you can choose

Choose your roller shutter.

These are the choices you have. Not sure? Then we talk it through with you.

  • Surface-mounted, frame-mounted or built-in

The difference is where the shutter and its box go: in front of the facade, on the window frame or built into the facade. Which suits your home we talk through with you.

  • Aluminium or plastic slats

Aluminium is stronger and more weather-resistant and usually insulates better; plastic is lighter and generally cheaper. Which suits your windows and your budget we talk through with you.

  • By hand or electric

With a strap, cord or crank, or electrically with a switch, a remote control or an app. There are also solar-powered versions, with no cable to the wall.

  • Colour

Roller shutters come in many colours, from white and cream to grey and anthracite. Choose one that suits your window frames and your facade.

  • Extra burglary protection

A lift-proof lock makes it much harder to push the shutter up from outside. If you want that extra protection, say so in your request.

  • Together with your veranda

Roller shutters as well as a veranda or sun shading? Talk to us about it up front, and we will match the colours and the finish.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about roller shutters.

Your question isn't here? Feel free to get in touch: we are happy to answer it.

What is the difference between a surface-mounted, frame-mounted and built-in roller shutter?

With a surface-mounted shutter, the shutter hangs on the outside of the facade with its box above the window — as in the photo. With a built-in shutter, the box is hidden in the facade; that gives the neatest finish, but on an existing house the facade has to be altered for it. A frame-mounted shutter sits on the window frame. Which suits your home we talk through with you.

Aluminium or plastic?

Aluminium is stronger and more weather-resistant and usually insulates better. Plastic is lighter and generally cheaper. Which suits your windows best we talk through with you.

Operate by hand or electrically?

By hand works with a strap, cord or crank. Electric works with a switch, a remote control or an app, and lets you operate several shutters at once. There are also solar-powered versions that need no cable to the wall. How you would like to operate it we talk through with you.

Does a roller shutter stop burglars?

A closed roller shutter is an extra obstacle: a burglar needs more time for it and is put off sooner. No shutter is impossible to get past. With a lift-proof lock it becomes much harder to push it up from outside. For the highest burglary resistance, look for a recognised quality mark, such as the Politiekeurmerk Veilig Wonen in the Netherlands; what is possible with your shutter we talk through with you.

Roller shutter or screen?

A roller shutter closes the window completely: dark, private and with an extra obstacle for burglars. A screen is made of fabric: it keeps the sun and heat out, and you can still see out through it by day. You will find more on screens under sun shading.

Do I need a permit for roller shutters?

Usually not. If you live in a listed building or a protected townscape, rules may apply, including for how a shutter has to look on the street side. Many apartment-owners' associations have rules of their own too. Check beforehand with your municipality (in the Netherlands through the Omgevingsloket) or your owners' association.

How do I look after a roller shutter?

Wipe the slats once or twice a year with lukewarm water and a mild soap or roller-shutter cleaner, without aggressive cleaning products. Keep the guides free of dirt and lubricate guides and rubbers with a dry lubricant such as silicone spray; grease attracts dirt. With an electric shutter, switch the power off first.
